How are you? First and foremost: I am sorry I missed blogging so long. I was on vacation and forgot to let you know that a blog post wasn’t coming for a little while. Sorry!

Where did I go on vacation? For the first time in my life I had a mixture of a business and pleasure trip. The first few days of my trip were spent at VidCon – it’s a conference in Anaheim, CA all about Youtube. I learned so much, met some amazing people and I am excited to put what I learned to practice and start making some videos for you. Tell me – what should my videos be about? Eyeliner? Contouring? Stories of my daily life? E-mail me back and let me know.

The second part of my trip I went to Honolulu, Hawaii! It was my very first time there and I loved it beyond words. I enjoyed some sun (responsibly and slathered SPF85 on me every day), some fun, and of course I paid attention to everyone’s makeup. Let me tell you, those Hawaiian women sure know how to do it UP! Their makeup looked flawless despite the heat and humidity. It occurred to me that women in Hawaii wear makeup as an expression of self-love. Wearing makeup to me really is an expression of self-love and here is how I practice it every day.

I personally wear makeup as an expression of self-love. I take my sweet-ass time getting ready not because I am slow moving, but because I take the time to really enjoy the process of getting ready. I have been asked on many occasions why I take so long to get ready and why can’t I just hurry up. The truth of the matter is, yes, I CAN hurry up. I can speed through my morning routine, slap on some mascara and a lip gloss and lightly fill in my eye brows and frantically run out the door. I can grab a coffee and a muffin in a drive-thru and rush to work. But in doing that – where is the joy? Where is the pleasure of creating the look that I want for that day? Where is the love?

I get up about two and a half hours in advance to being at work. Some people think its insanity to get up that early but for me it’s a process that sets the tone for my entire day. I make an effort to go to bed earlier so that I actually am capable of getting up so early. My makeup routine takes me between 20 and 45 minutes on a weekday and I enjoy every single moment of it. I then calmly enjoy my breakfast and a cup of tea before I get on the road. I have a bit of a longer commute to work so what I do is either listen to audio books or podcasts while I drive. I might be tired when I start my beauty routine but by the time I am done I feel energized and ready to take on the day.

If you are new to makeup or a seasoned makeup enthusiast I want you to think of makeup application as your way of showing yourself love. Take your time applying your makeup and notice how something like mascara can transform you. Add a little blush to your cheeks and you are insta-happy and insta-younger.

Today was a bit more of a motivational post but I’d love to hear from you – what did you think? Leave a comment below and let me know how you practice self-love. Do you have a routine? A special ritual? Let me know and above all keep practicing self-love. There is always time to appreciate yourself because if You love You, then the world loves you tooJ

Thank you so much for reading and sharing. I am incredibly excited to continue sharing these little self-love, beauty and makeup knowledge nuggets with you and helping you be even more extraordinary then you already are.

Oh and one last thing, if you liked this post please forward it to a friend who is looking to step up their makeup game or someone who needs a new perspective on showing self-love.
